We are now in the age of watches and phones that track our steps, exercise and calorie intake and people are very aware of their health and wellbeing and like to monitor it on a daily basis. Now we claim to be fairly fit people in the HR Rev offices, so we were discussing how best to fit in exercise in our working day.
How on earth can we fit in exercise you ask, when we spend most of our day sitting on our bottoms stuck in front of our computers and according to recent studies, sitting more than six hours a day increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. You say there just isn’t any time, or is there…
It is a proven fact and to your companies benefit, that squeezing a little exercise into your day improves concentration and makes us more productive. Also there are a few things you can do without realising that you are gently exercising and you don’t even have to move from your chair!
Here are a few tips…
Firstly check that the your chair and desk ergonomics are correct, this will ensure you are sitting correctly saving aches and pains in your back and avoids you straining your eyes if your computer is too far away from you.
Try toning those stomach muscles, hold your tummy in each time you answer the phone, or alternatively when you are making a call hold your muscles in until the person you are calling picks up! Simply sitting at your desk with a straight back is probably one of the most effective of exercises and this strengthens your core.
Instead of emailing your colleagues a reply, take a walk to the person you need to email this will stretch your legs and allow you to communicate more openly and build relationships too. Or get the drinks in, going back and forth to make tea/coffee are perfect opportunities for upping your step count, plus it will make you popular with your colleagues!
Finally stay hydrated always try and have a bottle of water on your desk, so you can constantly have sips of water to ensure you feel alert and awake, not only will your skin thank you, it is also essential for maintaining your general health and wellbeing!
Easy, simple and very effective. Why not, give them a go and get that spring back in your step!!
