Queen Elizabeth II is turning 90 years old today! She is Britain’s longest serving monarch, having been on the throne for over 63 years.
Quite a landmark age indeed and she is more popular than ever and here’s a few things people might not know about her, which I think make her even more wonderful…
When she was 15 she played Prince Florizel in the Pantomime of Cinderella alongside her sister Margaret.
The then princess used ration coupons to buy the material for her wedding dress to wed Philip Mountbatten in November 1947.
When Elizabeth gave birth to Prince Andrew in 1960, she became the first reigning sovereign to have a child since 1857.
She speaks fluent French and often uses the language for audiences and state visits. She does not require an interpreter.
The Queen has answered more than three-and-a-half million items of correspondence during her reign so far – now that’s a lot of post!
The Queen has owned more than 30 corgis during her reign starting with Susan who was a present for her 18th birthday in 1944. Her Majesty currently has three corgis – Monty, Willow and Holly.
With 4 children and 8 grandchildren, she shows no sign of slowing down, so we say enjoy your birthday and all your celebrations…
